Queensland Manx Society. 1914-2000
(Chesnaght Manninagh Queensland).
Moghrey mie crenaght ta shiu ?. (G'Day Mate. 'Ow ya goin' ?)
The Queensland Manx Society was founded in Brisbane in December 1914 and has been serving the Manx community of Queensland continuously since that date. One of our original members, Mrs Gladys Bain (nee Kelly), is still serving and was granted Life Membership in 1996 on the occasion of her 90th Birthday. Gladys has maintained her membership throughout her life and served as Secretary for 50 years.
Late in 1997, The Queensland Manx Society Inc. accepted a design by Helene & Michael McCarthy for a Society Banner to be used at all Society Functions and whenever we are 'on display' as guests of Kindred Societies. Our first major outing was at the Glen Innes Standing Stones Celebrations on the last week-end of April 1998 at Glen Innes, New South Wales. At this function, all of the Celtic organisations from around Australia gathered for a Celtic Festival at the Glen Innes Standing Stones, a site based on the Stones of Callanish on the Isle of Lewis, off Scotland’s West coast (OR the "Ring of Brodgar" in the Orkneys (whichever piece of Advertising you choose to follow.) In Year 2000, the Combined Manx Societies functions will be hosted by the Queensland Manx Society with 31 members already signifying their attendance. It promises to be another great gathering.

President, Queensland Manx Society honoured by the Celtic Council of Australia.
Joseph Quayle, President of the Queensland Manx Society has been honoured by the Celtic Council of Australia for his work, over many years, in keeping the Queensland Manx Society the active and vital society it is today. During our Christmas Function in December 1997, Joseph was awarded the Celtic title of "Duine Uasal" or "Honoured Person". The honour carries the post nominals of "D.Ua." so our President is now "Mr. Joseph Quayle, D.Ua.". The award was made following a nomination by the Queensland Manx Society in response to an invitation by the Celtic Council of Australia to submit names for recognition. The whole process was conducted in utmost secrecy and it was truly delightful to see the expression of surprise and disbelief on Joseph’s face when the Queensland Co-ordinator of the Celtic Council of Australia, Mr. Bruce Shaw, made the announcement and presented the Certificate to him. Congratulations Joseph from your Committee and fellow Members of the Queensland Manx Society.
